Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD)
Decide if a new CAD is needed, building requirements, establishing “user groups” (agencies, dispatchers, fire station personnel, management, finance). Developing a Request For Proposal (RFP), contracting considerations (cost, duration, TESTING!, amendments), technology (CAD – CAD, data to “rip ‘n run” printers/pagers, Automated Vehicle Locating (AVL)), road closures, management “buy in”, Records Management System (RMS). Develop capabilities desired (contracting, billing, training, finance, political, media, internal budget negotiations)
Pre-disaster Planning/Training
Base camp sites (contracts, space, utilities, communications, feeding, mapping, vehicle maintenance, supplies). Train for major incidents (ICS, exercises), high risk/low frequency event training, train with community. Direct outreach such as public meetings, indirect outreach such as mailings or websites. Media use/benefits.
How to Survive a Wildfire
Personal protective equipment such as clothing and/or portable fire shelters. Water supply for hydration. Home protection considerations such as application of gels or retardant. Using the home or vehicle as a temporary “shield”. Shelter-in-place planning and implementation.
